J.J. Yeley brought out the fourth caution of Sunday’s Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway when he attempted to drive through the inside retaining wall of Turn 2. As much as DLP executives wanted to see the 96 car in victory lane, they also admitted their sponsorship may have played a role in Yeley’s unfortunate wreck.
Prior to the green, Samsung ordered Yeley’s pit crew to install 37 extra mirrors in the cockpit of the 96.
“Looking in one of several proverbial rear-view mirrors, this may have been a mistake on our part. But we’re in a tough spot. Drivers can easily chug a Coca-Cola after the race or throw on a pair of Wranglers, but how in the hell are we supposed to promote our mirrors?” one industry professional fumed.
Yeley’s single fan attending the race, Richie Comstock, was following his favorite driver with his binoculars all afternoon and listening to the 96’s radio transmissions.
“J.J. just looked confused all day. It was like his head was on a swivel. His spotter wasn’t helping things, either — check your number 4 left front side-view! — was the last thing J.J. heard before hitting the inside wall.”
DLP conceded that their mirrors make the picture on your television more clear, but may not have the same effect when used in a racecar.
Instead of discarding the mirrors, Yeley has reportedly asked DLP to install them in the bedroom ceiling of his RV.

It really is all in the mirrors. I once duct-taped little mirrors to my Reeboks at Bristol. I spent the whole day walking around the infield and looking up the jean mini-skirts of all the foxes.
