Dear Mike Helton:
On behalf of the Rousch-Fenway Racing’s #17 USG Sheetrock/DeWalt Ford team, we respectfully request you cancel the rest of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule and declare a champion based on the points standings as they are today. Our crew members voted last night, 15 to 11, to curtail the season, overruling an executive decision by you to continue.
This decision was tough and comes despite excellent reviews the #17 has received for the first two races under the direction of Drew Blickensderfer. We understand the consequences of making such request and are willing to move forward into 2010 as the defending Sprint Cup Series champion.
We think that the struggling economy mixed with low attendance numbers, and the fact that I am in the lead, canceling the rest of the season is the right thing to do. Also, to maintain the integrity of the sport by denying Jimmie Johnson a fourth straight championship making sure the sport remains pure by keeping that “Yankee” out of the record books.
Mr. Helton, there is no way a driver in the Sprint Cup Series this year can match or beat the excitement I have provided America with during these first two races. Hats off to me. Keeping the season going for more races will only bore the rest of
In conclusion Mr. Helton, do what successful T.V. series like Dirty Sexy Money and My Own Worst Enemy have done and end the season on top. Quit while you’re ahead. For the good of the Series, cancel the rest of the season. Don’t make me do to you what I did to Carl Edwards last year.
Sincerely,
Matthew Roy Kenseth

And, on behalf of Napa and Aaron’s, I’d also second Matt’s request to freeze the standings as they are and secure Michael Waltrip Racing as the top Toyota team.
Respectfully,
Michael Waltrip
